Welcome to the memorial page for

Jerome Simon Schmidt

November 8, 1936 ~ November 2, 2017 (age 80) 80 Years Old
It is with sadness we announce the passing of Jerome Simon Schmidt (Jerry) at the Agape Hospice in Calgary, Alberta on November 2, 2017 at the age of 80 years.
Jerry was born on November 8, 1936 in Davidson, Saskatchewan to his parents, Margaret and Peter Schmidt. He grew up in Lumsden, Saskatchewan in the beautiful Qu'Appelle Valley where his family farmed. He left the farm (which he always kept with him in his memories and heart) and followed his dreams to bigger cities in Western Canada. He landed in Calgary, Alberta where he worked in many industries over the years and always enjoyed the challenge of trying something new professionally. He travelled back to the farm many summers to share his childhood home with his wife and daughters. Every summer was an adventure and an opportunity to visit his very loving and large extended family.
Jerry was a talented and passionate hockey player. As a teenager, he was very happy to accept a position to play hockey at St. Peter's College in the village of Muenster near Humboldt, Saskatchewan. Always an avid supporter of the sport, Jerry was a founder of the Potash League and the Kalium Cup in his home province. He enjoyed competing with his brothers and lifelong friends. He played hockey well into his adult years. It truly was one of the great loves of his life.
His parents Peter and Margaret Schmidt; sister Irene Schmidt; brothers Doug, John, Dave and Jim Schmidt; brothers-in-law Chuck Nerada and Delmar Rankin; and sister-in-law Jeanne Schmidt, among many other family members, predecease Jerry.
Jerry will be fondly remembered by those who survive him, including: his best friend Jeannette Babuick, his daughters Jamie Francisco (Gilbert), Jerri-Lyn Schmidt and Jae Caputo (Carmen) of Calgary Alberta; his sisters Gladys Rankin, Marlene (Roger) Plaxton and Margaret Anne Nerada; and brothers Richard and Bill (Beryl) Schmidt; sister in law Marg Schmidt; his four beautiful grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. Rest in Peace, Jerry. We'll see you in our dreams.
Jerry's family will remember him privately. Photos, memories and condolences may be shared with Jerry's family through www.evanjstrong.com. The family wish/wishes to thank the staff and volunteers at Agape Hospice in Calgary for their kind and gentle care in the last days of his life. A special thanks to Dr. U Lauf who helped more then he could ever know. Arrangements in care of EVAN J. STRONG FUNERAL SERVICES. (403) 265-1199
