Carol Janette Marek

Carol Janette Marek was born on August 1, 1942, in Richmond, Virginia, to Karel and Herma
Marek. Her parents were pastors in several places, and thus she lived in Richmond, Chicago,
Minitonas (Manitoba), Swan River (Manitoba), and finally Saskatoon. Janette was a very keen
and successful student. She loved music, and was an excellent pianist and sought after
accompanist as well as piano teacher. She attended Central Pentecostal Bible College for one
year and then attended the University of Saskatchewan also for a year. She married LeRoy
Olson in 1968 and moved to Kitchener/Waterloo for his work. They then moved to St. John,
New Brunswick, before arriving in Calgary in June of 1970, where she has lived ever since.
During her working years, Janette worked as a teller for the Royal Bank, a creative design
artist for various retail outlets, and finally as a cashier for the Planning Department with the
City of Calgary. She was very involved in her church, leading choirs and music productions.
Her artistic flair was evident and respected. She is honoured as a loyal and generous friend, a
great mom, and delightful grandmother, but most of all as a devout follower of Jesus Christ.
She is survived by her children, Keir (Tasha) Olson of Calgary, Krista Olson of Calgary; granddaughter Amaiya; friend, and the father of her children, LeRoy Olson of Calgary; brothers Karel (Pat) Marek and Daniel (Sharon) Marek; sister Cathy (Darwyn)
MacKenzie, all of Saskatchewan, as well as several nieces and nephews.
We want to thank the Foothills Country Hospice in Okotoks for giving such loving care to
Janette over the last month of her life. We appreciate your kindness and your willingness to
accommodate our days together with you.
