William Hugh MacGillivray

With deep sadness the family of William MacGillivray announces his passing on Tuesday November 13, 2018 at the age of 86. Bill was born and raised in east Calgary and, other than six years when he lived with his sister Katie and her family in Edmonton, lived his entire life in Calgary. Bill was one of seven children and was predeceased by siblings Katie, John, Herb, Harold, and Olive. He is survived by his beloved sister Betty whom he affectionately called his little sister even though she was four years older.

Bill was the favourite uncle of a long list of surviving nieces and nephews including John, Brian, Tom, Debbie, Nola, Fred, Peggy, Kevin, Janet, Cindy, Jack, Bill, Joan and his long-time good friend Kathy. Bill was also a dog lover and was predeceased by his friends Shorty, Irish, Vinnie and Blondie.

Bill enjoyed his career as a long-term employee (25+ years) in the production department of the Calgary Herald. Bill was an extremely kind and gentle man and his wonderful sense of humour will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

At William’s request there will be no formal funeral service.
