Wayne Joseph Wilfred Samson, age 68, of Calgary, Alberta lost his fight with cancer on January 2, 2020. Wayne was born in Windsor, Ontario on June 7, 1951. He attended Herman Collegiate High School. Wayne was an all-around athlete, a cut above in talent and competitiveness. He won Athlete of the Year Award in 1970 and obtained a football scholarship to Northwood College in Midland, Michigan. Along with his multitude of sporting achievements, Wayne also modeled for Freed Men’s Wear and ran for City Council in Windsor in 1974.
Wayne loved the outdoors, skiing in the mountains, hiking and golfing. He lived in Canmore for several years and considered the mountains to be one of his special places.
Wayne is survived by his mother Jeannine and father Leonard Samson; his wife Lynne, son Reese, daughters Jade and Lauren; brothers Brian, Keith, Kenny, Christopher, Danny and Jimmy; and sisters Cheryl and Janice; along with many nieces and nephews.
Wayne loved life and lived it every day to the fullest. His wisdom and humour could hold entertainment on the floor for hours. He was one of a kind and will be forever missed by his family and friends. A celebration of life will be held in both Windsor and Calgary with details to follow at a later date.
