Victor Bohonos Obituary

As family and friends surrounded him with love, Victor passed away peacefully on December 20, 2018, at the age of 91 years.

Victor lived passionately, loved fiercely, and made a deep impression on those fortunate to have met him. He cherished his family, friends and companions, and will be remembered for his unceasing devotion and generosity. As the youngest of five children, born in Edmonton to Ukrainian immigrants, Victor adopted the family’s values of honesty, hard-work and integrity. Able to put a positive-spin on life’s challenges, he considered himself blessed to have “the best job in the entire Canadian petroleum industry,” serving as Manager of Marketing and Transportation for Canadian Superior Oil Ltd. for over 30 years. Concurrently, he served as Managing Director of Canadian Superior (Thailand) Ltd., President of Agri-Sul Canada Ltd., Director of Peace Pipeline Co. Ltd, Cansuliex Ltd and Sultran Ltd. Victor also served as President and C.E.O. of Progas Ltd. before forming his own consulting company.

A true gentleman and a ‘classy guy’, Victor played golf and tennis, travelled to many continents, and for some years resided part-time in Germany with his then partner Marietta Ehle. An enthusiastic fan of the arts, Victor relished his evenings at the C.P.O., and found joy through music and dance. Those who met Victor in his later years were impressed by his vitality and sharp intellect (to say nothing of his enviable head of hair!). A self-described perfectionist, Victor voiced strong opinions and sought out ways to make a difference through active public, political and community service. He was actively involved in the Manning Foundation and Common-Sense Calgary. Victor devoted many hours to writing his memoirs, a fascinating and detailed account of a life lived very well, indeed.

Victor was predeceased by many loved ones… his wife Lois (Chisholm), in 1986; his parents, Victoria and Harry; his siblings, Michael, Nestor, Joseph and Nadia; and his previous partners, Grace Drummond and Ann Richardson. He will be missed by many, including his son, Brock (Michelle Williams); his daughter, Blythe (Nick Diochnos); his grandchildren, Roan, Mason, Kosta and Chloe; as well as his much-loved companion of recent years, Gerry Weston.

For all their kind, attentive, compassionate care, we extend our deepest gratitude to Victor’s entire medical team, notably unit 32 at Foothills Hospital, and the gifted staff at Sarcee Carewest Hospice. Our heartfelt thanks to our ‘Halkier’ cousins, and Gerry Weston and her family for their loving support. We extend our warm gratitude to the wonderful staff and community of Manor Village Signature Park, where Victor thoroughly enjoyed his last few years.
