Rose-Marie passed away peacefully on Sunday at the age of 78, blessed by the love and care of those around her. She is survived by her children Michelle, John and Lisa; siblings Richard, Lawrence, Gertrude and Beatrice; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Rose-Marie was born and raised in Ponteix, SK and then moved to Edmonton where she met and married Gerry, her husband of 55 years, who recently pre-deceased her. They moved to Calgary in the mid 1960’s and raised their family there. Rose-Marie was the typical housewife of the day, she loved to cook and bake for her family and many of her favorite recipes are still in use today. She loved gardening and many hours were spent tending to her vegetable gardens. Rose-Marie was an active member of the Catholic Women’s League often helping with work bees for church events. After retiring, Gerry and Rose-Marie moved to High River enjoying the pace of small town life and sense of community. She liked to entertain and maintain a close connection with family and friends. Rose-Marie loved going for walks in the park, scenic mountain hikes, playing cards, dancing and had a quick sense of humour. Routine and order were very important and there were always lists being made so things were not forgotten. She possessed a quiet strength that saw her through many of life’s ups and downs. Never complained or asked for help until it was offered, even when it was much needed. She had a deep sense of faith in God and strong ideals about right and wrong in the world. Rose-Marie developed a strong sense of independence after Gerry suffered a paralyzing stroke requiring them to live apart for some years. They were reunited in 2016 at Providence Care Centre and spent many hours together watching old movies and participating in various activities.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick Catholic Church (1414 Shawnessy Blvd SW) Thursday, July 5, 2018 at 11:00 am. followed by a reception. Family and friends are then invited to the Interment Ceremony at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens.
