Norman Richter Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Norman Richter announces his passing after a brief illness on Friday, September 27, 2019, at the age of 89 years. Norm will be lovingly remembered and missed dearly by his wife of 69 years, Lorraine (nee Ditchfield) and his children, Lynn Geisler, Cheryl (Kurtis) McCartney, Melanie Bockstael, and Merilee Hicks. Norm (Papa) will also be fondly remembered by his 11 grandchildren, Michelle (Jason) Broussard, Kirsten (Todd) Blackmon, Elliott Geisler, Devon (Angela) McCartney, Ashley (Ben) McCartney, Matt (Isabelle) Bockstael, Jeremy (Phil) Bockstael, Joey Bockstael, Alex Hicks, Alana Hicks, Jesse Hicks, and by his five adored great grandchildren Logan, Everly, Noah, Jenson and Finley. Norm is also survived by his sisters, Helen Hiebert, Diane Dyck, sister-in-law Jackie Richter, and brother-in-law Dick Midbo. Norm was predeceased by his daughter Heather, brother Charlie Richter and his sister Florence Midbo. After growing up in Ashern Manitoba, Norm moved to the city of Winnipeg where he and Lorraine built a life in the city and raised their wonderful family. Norm was a very successful businessman at McGavin's Bread where he held the position of General Manager until his retirement in 1984. Following this, Norm and Lorraine returned to the Ashern area to take up a life of cattle farming and enjoying days with the family at their cottage at Lake Manitoba Narrows. The family has many cherished memories during this time playing lawn darts, shuffleboard, fishing, hunting and snowmobiling. A private Family Celebration of Life was held on Sunday September 29th, 2019 in Calgary, Alberta. A Graveside Memorial Service and internment will be held in the summer of 2020 in Ashern, Manitoba where Norm was born. The family would like to express sincere appreciation and thanks to the doctors and staff of the Seton South Health Campus Hospital in Calgary for all the kindness and gentle care they provided.
