Welcome to the memorial page for

Mary Helen Meagher

December 15, 1919 ~ February 18, 2017 (age 97) 97 Years Old
Mary Helen Meagher, 97, passed away February 18, 2017 in Calgary, Alberta. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Heather, of Victoria, BC as well as ten nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her homesteading parents Helen and Lawrence Meagher, her sister and best friend Cecilia, brothers Albert and Wilfrid, and her nephew John. Born 1919 in Assiniboia SK., Mary was raised on the family farm. Life there helped shape her into a resilient, thrifty, caring and patient person. She put others first, from the time she saved her younger sister from a devastating fire in 1927 right through to her last days. Mary, always strong and independent, packed her steamer trunk and moved to Edmonton in 1948. There, she fashioned a 36year long career in cosmetics with Eaton's. She volunteered with many organizations and charities. Her deep compassion for the sick was evident in numerous ways throughout her life, including many decades as a Eucharistic minister at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. She was a sorority sister with Beta Sigma Phi, volunteering for events in Edmonton and creating lasting friendships. Mary loved golf and was a member of the Highlands Golf Club. She travelled extensively; but one of the great highlights of her life was spending time with her extended family. Her presence always made special family gatherings complete. Mary moved to Calgary in August 2016 to be closer to family. She left a legacy of faith and love touching so many with her humour, her devotion and her interest in the lives of others. Aunt Mary, as she was known, will be remembered as a stylish, warm-hearted, independent and loyal woman who will be deeply missed by the many people whose lives she has touched during her long and generous life. Funeral mass will be held in Assiniboia. For those who wish, donations in memory of Mary are welcome to: Sign of Hope Society, Archdiocese of Edmonton.
