It's with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Martina Joy Losing on Saturday, October 7, 2017. She was surrounded by many of her family, friends, and a lot of guitar playing and sing-a-long. It was so fitting that her middle name was Joy as Martina embraced life and her loved ones with so much passion, never missing a chance to truly live her life to the fullest.
Martina was born on March 6, 1970, to Harold and Carolyn in Drumheller, AB. She was the youngest of three girls; Sheila being first and Roberta being second.
She lived in Drumheller until age three when the family moved to Fox Creek where they lived for the next 3 years (1973-1976).
In 1976, the family moved to Jakarta, Indonesia where Martina attended grades 1-3 at the Jakarta International School.
In 1979, the family made a permanent move to Calgary where she completed her schooling, graduating from James Fowler High School in 1988.
Martina was always sensitive to other people. She pursued this virtue academically by attending Mount Royal College receiving a diploma in Rehabilitation Services in 1990.
Martina's joy of travel was very evident. In the last year of her life she travelled extensively to:
a€¢ Bali to attend her cousin's Darcy's wedding to Nanik
a€¢ Ukraine to be the Maid of Honour to Maryanna & Tyler Andruschak
a€¢ Florida to attend her sister Roberta's wedding to Stéphane
a€¢ Bahama cruise after Roberta and Stéphane's wedding
a€¢ Aruba with Dallas Richards
a€¢ California for the Michael Franti recipient of "Do it for the Love" Foundation with her Soul Rocker Sisters
a€¢ Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Folk Festival to see Michael Franti again with her Soul Rockers Sisters
a€¢ Canada Day 150 celebrations in Ottawa with Mylaine Tsaprailis
a€¢ One month travelling throughout BC and up through the North-West Territories with Stephane Parent
Martina was predeceased by her father Harold Losing. She is survived by her mother Carolyn Losing, sister Sheila & Terry Talbott (and sons Christopher and Harold); sister Roberta Jess and husband, Stèphane Parent. She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.
She will be deeply missed and never far from our thoughts.
