Lorna Joyce Stevens

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lorna Joyce Stevens; wife, mother, aunt, daughter and sister, on Saturday, August 24, 2019, in Calgary, Alberta, with her family by her side.  Lorna was born on January 22, 1955, to the late Jim and Nora Meek in Regina, Saskatchewan.

Lorna graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1976. She married Douglas Stevens on July 10, 1976, and together they moved to Edmonton, Alberta and eventually to Calgary to raise their family.

Lorna will forever be remembered by her husband and best friend Doug, and their precious children, Andrew, Sheena and Ian, and by her sister Karen (Raymond) Williams. She will also be forever remembered by her nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. She also had a special place in her heart for her beloved grand-dogs, Jerri and Harvey and the family dogs Jason and Timon.  

Lorna was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She was also an active member in her community, volunteering for various organizations and activities that her children were involved with. Lorna’s dedication and leadership for 25 years with the Girl Guides of Canada will be truly missed. The Sparks, Brownies, Guides and Pathfinders played a major role in Lorna’s life. The most cherished people in Lorna’s life knew every day how much she cared about them. She was immensely proud of all her relationships with family and friends; these people meant the world to her. Lorna had a way of making every single person in her life feel like they were the most important – truly a gift. 

A Celebration of Lorna’s life will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 4:00pm at the Silver Springs Community Center (5720 Silver Ridge Dr. NW, Calgary, AB).  

Memorial donations in memory of Lorna can be made to the Girl Guides of Canada – Scenic Bow Valley District (2188 Brownsea Drive NW, Calgary, AB T2N 3G9).
