Lonny Gabinet

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of Lonny Gabinet (nee Slater) of Calgary, surrounded by those who loved her on February 18, 2019 at the age of 65 years.

Lonny was the beloved wife of Dennis Gabinet who would have celebrated their 40th Wedding Anniversary on June 23, 2019.  She was a loving mother to Lisa and Robert Gabinet; and cherished grandmother to Phillip LeGarde-Gabinet. Lonny is survived by her sibling, Bill Slater (Judy), and Sister-In-Law, Marcia Slater, and will be joining brother Barry Slater in the afterlife. She will also be remembered by her many nieces, nephews, and friends. Family was Lonny’s passion and delight.

Whether through cooking outstanding meals or organizing family trips to the Gabinet Getaway at Tie Lake, BC, Lonny always put family first. She also valued the many relationships she had in the community. Everyone was special to her and she made sure they knew it. Lonny had a lust for life with a strong passion for writing, reading, golfing, and enjoying the great outdoors. She went on many walking adventures with her trusty sidekick, Max. Her career achievements focused on planning and community engagement. Through her skills in communication and consultation, she brought people together to build a better future.Lonny generously donated her time by volunteering in the ministry of Bereavement Care and sang in two of St. Bonaventure Church Choirs.  We will forever miss her guiding presence in our lives. She was our rock, our soft place to fall and always there for anyone who needed her. Lonny was generous with her love, her time and her talents.

The family wish to extend their sincere gratitude to all those who provided emotional support during this difficult time. Special thanks to the care teams at the South Health Campus who provided exceptional care during her final days.
