Jose Augusto Abuan

Jose Augusto "Peping" Abuan passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, May 13, 2018 at the age of 93. Jose was born on September 15, 1924 in Naguilllan, La Union, Philippines. Jose worked as a civil engineer and a retired school carpenter by trade at Saint Louis University, Baguio City, Philippines. Jose is pre-deceased by his wife, Francisca R. Abuan. Having that love at first sight moment, Jose asked for his wife’s cousin to introduce him to her and from there they got to know one another until eventually marrying. Francisca was a dressmaker and homemaker from Binalonan, Pangasinan, Philippines and worked as a nanny in Hong Kong, in 1982 for 15 years. On March 23, 1995, Jose and Francisca then immigrated to Calgary where they both worked as building maintenance at the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede. They both were awarded the SuperHost Award several times, and Francisca was also awarded the Blue Ribbon Award during their time there. Jose was able to build a wonderful life for his family and is survived by his nine children & fifteen grandchildren: Virginia R. Abuan & Ramon Plantilla (Robert Christopher & Patricia Anne); Lourdes R. Abuan; Simeon Jose R. Abuan & Marietta Manuel (Lady Shaira & John Ralph Austin); Mary Ann Janet R. Abuan-Fanella & Nick Fanella; Roland Rey R. Abuan & Norelie Ascano (Rebecca Grace, Reiner, Ron & Blessing); Rosalinda Jane R. Abuan-Disipulo & Benny Disipulo (Renan, Belinda & Marilyn); Maria Cristina R. Abuan-Dulay & Rolando Dulay (Dannica Mae, Rad-Cris & Catherine); Gay R. Abuan-Summers & Ryan Summers; Harvey Bryan R. Abuan; and great grandchildren. Relatives and Friends are invited to Prayers on Thursday, May 24 at 7:00 pm at Holy Spirit Catholic Church (10827-24th St. SW). Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Friday, May 25 at 11:00 am with The Rev. David Meadows presiding. Graveside Service to follow to Eden Brook Memorial Gardens.
