John Spring Obituary

John was born in 1931 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The family farm was north-east of Riverton, Manitoba in the heart of the Icelandic-Canadian area. His father was Swiss but integrated well into the tight-knit farming community. His mother’s family name was Johnson and her father was from Skagafjörður, Iceland. John is survived by three younger sisters - Joyce, Gladys and Doris. They were a close family being on the farm and home schooled until John was old enough to drive himself and his sisters to town. John attended the University of Manitoba and, with his BSc in Civil Engineering, he was snapped up by the fledgling oil and gas industry in Alberta. He worked for the Chevron Corporation for his 40+ year career primarily in gas plant management and marketing. John and Marian met at university and were married in 1955. Except for an overseas assignment in Venezuela (where all three of their children were born), they have lived in Alberta all their married lives. John and Marian were always very active in their community and loved curling, golf and cross-country skiing. Friends and family have many fond memories of the get togethers in their gracious homes. John is survived by his wife Marian, three children - Sharon, Don and Carol and their families. The family is not planning any public memorial service or funeral. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Parkinson Association of Alberta - http://parkinsonassociation.ca/
