John Sutherland McKay

John Sutherland McKay Jr., son of John Sutherland McKay Sr. and Mary McKay (née Whelan), passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at the age of 79 years young. John is survived by his older sister Saundra (Glynn), his younger sisters Sheila (Pool) and Janna (Crosley), and younger brothers Peter and George. John was born in Val d’Or, Québec and grew up in Arnprior, Ontario. As a much younger man, John went west to Alberta seeking his fame and fortune. One of his many admirable traits was that he was always reaching for the stars until the very, very end. John was an accomplished licensed pilot and loved to fly his plane. The accomplishment he most liked to talk about and always remembered most fondly though,  was his association with his beloved Drum Corps. In 1965-1966, The Arnprior Lion’s Club proudly presented him with a beautifully engraved plaque in sincere appreciation and recognition of his enthusiasm, time, energy, and talents that he devoted to The Drum Corps. Though John often marched to the beat of a different drummer and is now gone from this mortal coil, rest assured he will be dearly missed by all his family & friends and his band plays on.
