Ingeborg Weigle Obituary

Inge Weigle passed away peacefully in Calgary on Friday, September 21, 2018 at the age of 85, with her devoted husband and children by her side. Inge was born during difficult times in 1933 in a small town in southern Germany.  Her father died during the war in Russia and she and her two brothers had to work hard at a very young age to help their mother carry on the family’s restaurant.  Inge often talked with her own children about this time, and it became apparent how difficult it must have been to grow up in such desperate times. Inge’s mother Adelheid, who was a strong and determined woman, became a role model for Inge. Inge grew up to be the same righteous and independent woman that Adelheid inspired. Inge was a young beautiful 26 year old woman when she met and fell in love with Ernst.  Despite protests from her family regarding a seven year age difference, they married and remained devoted to one another during 58 years of marriage.   At a young age they took over the family business and had four children.  Their hard work and efforts were rewarded and their business flourished.  Ernst and Inge were very proud of what they had accomplished as a young couple with their young children. Inge had a strong drive for adventure and was always seeking opportunities to make things better for her family and children.  Being of the belief that Canada, a country rich in resources, would provide great opportunities for her family, she convinced Ernst to sell the family business in 1980 and they immigrated to Canada. Shortly after arriving in Calgary, Inge and Ernst opened a similar business, which was welcomed with open arms by the German community.  As was the case in Germany, Ernst and Inge carried on the business in Calgary with a lot of dedication and pride.  They manufactured delicatessen products of the highest quality, which were sold to restaurants and specialty food stores throughout Calgary. Inge and Ernst retired in 2002 and their daughter Christina and her husband took over the family business. Inge was a very active, strong woman, who loved music, playing the piano, and singing. She also treasured the mountains, jogging, swimming, and going for long walks.  One thing that was very memorable about her was her ability and desire to swim in mountain lakes and rivers with temperatures barely above freezing.  Bystanders who witnessed this always were in shock and disbelief.  She took healthy living very seriously and refused to use any ingredients in her cooking which were not considered healthy.  This made some of her recipes very interesting for her family! She remained a strong woman for many years during her struggle with dementia; but, eventually lost this battle.  Left behind to mourn her are her loving husband, Ernst, and children, Michael (Nicole), Uwe (Chris), Christina (Rick), and Verena (Daniel). Also grieving are her grandchildren, Joel, Michael, Celina, Cedar, Rain, Dominique, Fabienne and Benedikt. Memorial Service will be held at a later date, announcements are to follow.    Photos, memories and condolences may be shared with Inge’s family through www.evanjstrong.com. The family wish/wishes to thank the many care providers at the Bethany Centre in Calgary for the kindness and compassion they provided to her during her final years. Arrangements in care of EVAN J.
