Ian Thomas McClay

Ian Thomas McClay passed away Sunday, June 30th, 2019. He fought his battle with cancer courageously right to the end, never wavering in his faith and love for God. A loving husband and devoted father, Ian was always there for his family. Ian will be lovingly remembered by his wife Betty; his children, Tracey (Frank), Chris (LayKin) & Scott; his grandchildren, Marissa, Evan, and Owen; as well as his brother Bruce (Laurie), and extended family. He will be greatly missed by all.

Ian grew up in Winnipeg and had numerous jobs before he was employed by IBM in 1974. His twenty year career that started in Winnipeg carried his family to Saskatoon, Edmonton, and finally Calgary. Throughout his career with IBM, Ian received several awards for his numerous accomplishments. His last working years were at Rona where he continued to utilize his computer skills until his retirement in 2014.

Ian had an insatiable thirst for knowledge and was an avid reader. You could ask him about anything! Books and computers played a major role in his life. He enjoyed trips abroad, camping in the mountains, and family get-togethers.

Ian was predeceased by his mother Eva; his father John; his sister Heather; his brother Ross; and his step-mother Joan.

A memorial service will be held at Southview Alliance Church (20200 Walden Blvd SE) on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at 1:00pm with a reception to follow.
