Helen Weimer Obituary

It is with great love and deep sorrow that the family of Helen Weimer announces her passing on November 8, 2019 after a brief illness.  Helen was loved and cherished by her husband of 75 years, Norman, and will be lovingly remembered by her daughter and son-in-law Darlene and Mark MacDonald, granddaughter Brittany MacDonald and godson, Randy Fisher.

Helen was born in Drumheller, Alberta on May 9, 1926, the youngest child of Annie and Earl Reddick. In the summer of 1929, the family moved to Black Diamond where her father’s company moved buildings during the boom era. Helen’s childhood was spent in the area until the family moved to Calgary when she was twelve. The family lived downtown where Helen attended James Short School and then Western Canada High School. After high school, she worked for J.H. Ashdown.

Helen met the love of her life through mutual friends when she was 15.  Helen and Norman married on June 15, 1944 while Norman was in the Navy during World War II. They lived in Halifax while Norman served and Helen worked for TransCanada Airlines (Air Canada). When the war ended, they returned to Calgary where Helen worked for Dench of Canada (Canadian Transport) until they moved to Los Angeles, California in May 1952.

Helen loved watching her soap operas and sports on television. She took trips to Hawaii, Las Vegas and Mesquite, Nevada and always returned to Calgary each year during Stampede to visit with friends and family.

Helen worked for Refiners Marketing Company as Office Manager and Executive Secretary in downtown Los Angeles until 1972 when health issues forced her to retire.

Once retired, Helen faithfully attended the gym where she made many dear friends, pursued ceramics as a hobby and was an avid shopper.  She enjoyed people, had a quick wit and a fabulous sense of fashion and accessories.

In 2016, she returned to the Black Diamond area to be close to family and made many friends while a resident at the High Country Lodge.  The family would like to thank Doctor Brian Doran for his excellent care and Unit 94 at the Rockyview Hospital for their effort and compassion.

A Celebration of Helen’s Life will be held at a later date.
