Gerald Clayton Young

Gerald Young, born December 28, 1934 in High River, Alberta, passed away with family by his side on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at the age of 83 years. Gerald was predeceased by his father Clayton, mother Sybil, sister Betty Anne, and brother Doug.  He is survived by his loving wife Joanne; brother George (Donna); children Cam (Linda), Bob, Janet (Shane) and Stacey; and six wonderful grandchildren. Gerald served in the Air Cadets, and did two assignments in France with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, from the University of Alberta in 1956 and became a Chartered Accountant in 1959.  He worked in both public and private practice. Gerald was a tremendous volunteer.  He served as the Treasurer for the Providence Child Development Society, volunteered with Calgary Meals on Wheels for 40 years, and served in many capacities with his church - most notably with his booming baritone voice in the choir.  He also coached his children in various sports and participated in many school band fund raisers. His passions were photography, model railroading, opera and the Calgary Stampeders. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bernadette Catholic Church (7103 20A Street SE) on Monday, October 22, 2018 at 11:00 am.
