Frances Susan Douros

Frances Douros passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at the age of 71 years, with her daughters by her side. In spite of having cancer, she was brave and determined to enjoy life to the fullest throughout this past year. Frances was born in Peterborough and lived in England until the age of 18 when her adventurous spirit took her to Athens, Greece to work as an English tutor. It was while living in Athens that Frances met her husband of 50 years, Vasile Douros. The couple decided to emigrate to Canada with their two young daughters in 1974. Frances had an entrepreneurial spirit and owned several businesses in Calgary, most notably Stephanies Kids for over 30 years. Many a young Calgarian has been outfitted in style by Frances. As well as being an active part of the Calgary business community, Frances was a devoted mother to her daughters Rebecca (Geoff) and Denise (Jeff). She raised them both to become strong, independent women. Frances was strength, elegance and grace personified. She has passed these qualities on to her grandchildren Johnathan, Mackenzie, Cameron, and Hannah – all of who she adored more than anything. The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff at the Foothills Hospital for their kindness and compassion. Our thanks to all the wonderful doctors, nurses and volunteers at the Rosedale Hospice who cared for our mother as well our family over the past month. Thanks are also extended to the many friends and family who have been there, your love and support is immeasurable and thank you will never be enough.
