Dorothy Blain passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at the age of 95 years old. She was a loving and supportive Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother and will be sadly missed by the family.
Dorothy Jean (nee: Belows) was born on or near the farm at Leabank near Morris, Manitoba on January 31, 1923. She married David Blain on August 15, 1953 and they spent sixty-five years sharing their life together. While balancing raising her family and her job at the Hudson Bay, it was common for Dorothy to be up late most evenings caring for her home and family. She made the best homemade bread each week along with cakes, cookies and other goodies. Dorothy was a wonderful seamstress and loved to quilt, enjoying all her friends in various quilting guilds. She made quilts for her children and grandchildren which to this day are cherished. Dorothy loved creating ceramics with her sister Margaret, leaving many beautiful pieces for her family to enjoy and display. Her skills did not end there, as she created many large and small needlework pieces.
After their retirement, Dorothy and Dave moved from Winnipeg to Kelowna for over five years and then moved to Calgary. While Dave golfed, Dorothy quilted and together they enjoyed their retirement visiting family, traveling to many places including Europe, Florida, Mexico and Hawaii and watching their grandchildren participate in sports and activities. She will be forever remembered by her loving husband David Blain, her son Terry Blain and wife Beulah of Oakville Ontario, son Stuart Blain and wife Debbie of Winnipeg Manitoba, son in-law Chuck Dusessoy and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by her mother Mary and father John, sisters Elsie, Margaret, Arlene and Evelyn, brothers John and Artie and by her daughter Sharron.
Many thanks to the staff of Walden Heights Seniors Community for Dorothy's wonderful care in the past few years.
