Clare Kathleen Burns (nee Tarnes) of Calgary passed away Tuesday, May 28 at Revera McKenzie Towne Retirement Residence at the age of 81 years.
Clare is survived by her children, Jeffrey (Laree Burgoyne), Suzanne Eckstadt (Robert), Lisa Spehar (Louie), Diana Gowans (David), Jason (Lauren Cowles); her sisters, Marion Tarnes (Roger) of Moose Jaw, SK and Carol Gisi (David) of Medicine Hat, AB and her brother Peter Tarnes (Irene) of Estevan, SK. She was predeceased by her husband Donald Thomas Burns, and her parents Louis and Anne Tarnes. Clare was a loving Nana to grandchildren, Megan Eckstadt (Jordan Dahl), Justin Eckstadt (Lydia Mudge), Jessica Eckstadt (Michael Torjan), Rachel Sedgeworth, Colton Gowans, Mason Gowans, Julia Spehar and Owen Burns. She will be fondly remembered by several nieces, nephews and close friends too numerous to mention.
Clare touched many lives as both a primary teacher and a music director for her beloved ‘Sunshine Girls’. She also enjoyed gardening, bridge and square dancing, which she shared with her husband Don. She had a strong faith and was a founding member as well as an active parishioner of St. Michael Catholic Community since 1960. The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff at Rivera McKenzie Towne Retirement Residence for their care and companionship.
