It is with profound sadness that we inform all who loved Carl, that he experienced a fatal climbing accident at Cascade Mountain in Banff, Alberta on Christmas Day 2018.

Carl did exactly what he loved to do and was a very experienced climber. He lived life to its fullest and felt most at home at the very top of a mountain, sleeping in his tent overnight at times. Carl did the things many of us only talk or dream about, but never experience. He was kind, sentimental and had such a clever wit, loving to play jokes on people. Carl loved his beloved Sophie, his family, and his friends immensely! He missed his friends and family back home in Guelph, but during his time in Canmore, Carl befriended many other climbers and colleagues at Valhalla Pure Outfitters. Carl was a minimalist at heart and loved living in his van that he and his Dad built. Good food, wine, friends, family and Sophie was all he needed…. besides the mountains.

We miss him so much and our hearts are broken beyond words. Cremation will take place in Calgary, and Sophie, along with the climbing community, will celebrate his life at Cascade Mountain sometime in 2019. There will be a visitation on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 from 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-9:00pm. at the Italian Canadian Club (135 Ferguson St, Guelph, ON). A celebration of life will be announced in May 2019 to be held at the Arboretum in Guelph.

Thank you, Carl, for allowing us to be your parents, for being the best brother to Grant, a loving partner to Sophie, and an awesome friend to many. You will be in all our hearts forever.
