Barrie Jenner Gillam passed away peacefully on June 29, 2018 at the age of 84. Barrie is survived by his loving wife, Holly; daughter, Jody Chaffin; granddaughter, Lauren (David) Seward; one sister, June Smith; one brother, Les (Bev) Gillam; Sister-in-law Marie Dumas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Barrie was predeceased by his brothers-in-law, Gordon Smith, Les Dumas, and Nick Parasiuk. Barrie was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He joined thee army (PPCLI) in 1951 at the age of 17 and served in Korea from 1952 to 1953. He married Holly in 1956 and moved to Calgary in 1957. Barrie owned his own trucking company for several years and also worked as an automotive mechanic for several dealerships. Barrie belonged to St. Stephen’s Plus 50 and the Royal Canadian Centennial Legion #285. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Stephen Protomartyr Ukrainian Catholic Church (4903 – 45 Street SW) on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at 10:00 am, with the Rev. Father Mark Bayrock, and the Rev. Father Greg Faryna, presiding. Photos, memories, and condolences may be shared with Barrie’s family at www.evanjstrong.com.
