Avis Thompson-Hansen

It is with great sadness we announce that our beloved mom, Avis, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at the age of 86 years after a lengthy struggle with a degenerative illness.  Avis was born in Leeds West Yorkshire, England on October 5, 1931. Daughter of Emily Simpson and Herbert Brewster. Preceded in death by her first husband Gerald Thompson, her second husband James Hansen, as well as granddaughter Andrea Ticknor. Avis is survived by three daughters Kathrine Ticknor (Bill), Sandra Thompson, Karen Leroy (Brian) and two grandchildren Nicole Ticknor and Benjamin Ticknor (Erin). Avis will be remembered as a loving mother and proud grandmother as well as a caring and giving friend. Avis will be dearly missed and forever loved by family and friends. We have all been so fortunate to have had her in our lives.
Memorial Service will be held at Evan J Strong Funeral Services (5502 2 Street SW) on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 9:30 am.  Photos, memories and condolences may be shared with Avis’ family through www.evanjstrong.com.  If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to a charity of their choice. The family would like to thank the staff at both Classic Life and Extendicare Hillcrest for their caring of Avis during her time of need. In particular, the family would like to thank Pranisha and Marlene for their special attentiveness and loving care of our mom. Lastly, our heartfelt gratitude, respect and love for Avis’s lifetime friends Avis and Art Roemer.
