On Saturday, March 23, 2024, Elizabeth Roosen Spavor, loving wife, mother, and Nana, passed away at the age of 79. Ellie, as she was fondly known, is survived by her husband Stan Spavor; her children with Ben Wagner, Daniel, Carrie, and Kimberly; and Stan’s children, Lisa, Paul, Michael, and Carrie-Lynn; along with many loving grandchildren.
Ellie was born on October 30, 1944 in Tilburg, Holland. She immigrated to Winnipeg, MB, in 1949 at the age of 5, where she lived on Chelsea Avenue with her family. Within the strong Dutch community in Winnipeg, she met Ben Wagner and together they married in 1966 and had three children. Though their relationship turned out to be less permanent than either of them expected, both went on to remarry exceptional spouses. Ellie met Stan Spavor and together they enjoyed another loving eighteen years of marriage. They enjoyed travelling, their dogs, and their time in Chandler, Arizona spending time in the sun with family and friends.
Ellie was an avid seamstress and quilter. She could sew anything from wedding dresses to curtains, and even tooth fairy pillows. Her dedication to her craft allowed her to create many beautiful and timeless pieces that we can still enjoy today. You could always count on Ellie to hem or tailor a new pair of pants for you. She loved to read and was always ready to discuss and share a good novel and she was famously known for her fried egg sandwiches and Oliebollen.
