Leo, beloved husband of Cassie and father of Rodney and Sherry, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2017 at the age of 74. Leo was born in Edmonton and raised on the family farm near Heisler, AB along with his older sister and four younger brothers. Steeped in the formative lore of those early days he left at the age of 19 to pursue technical studies in Calgary and Ottawa prior to his first job in Norman Wells, NWT. He met his wife Cassie while further studying engineering in Edmonton and they were married on August 28, 1965. Initially settling in Ralston, AB for 7 years, a career opportunity in Calgary moved the family there in 1973 where they remained until their two children, Sherry and Rodney, graduated High School. Leo eventually retired at age 60, but remained very active; joyfully making the most of every day since.
Always positive and uplifting to those around him Leo deeply valued his entire family and the broad circle of friends he inevitably developed. His authentic sincerity and virtuous soul were immediately recognizable by all who met him. He cherished beauty in all things, cultivating a huge yard full of shrubs and flowers for many years.
Most of all, Leo was a devout and faithful servant of the Church and its community his whole life. He was quick to volunteer and extremely generous with his time across countless ministries and initiatives. Though his departure will be sorely felt by his parish, his family and his friends, Leo's presence left more than an echo, but an etching in stone to be cherished forever.
Funeral Mass will be concelebrated at St. Luke's Catholic Church (corner of Northmount Drive and Northland Drive NW) on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at 11:00am.
