Gisela Maria Gems

After a brief illness, Gisela entered the presence of the Lord on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at the age of 80 years. She is survived by her loving husband, Nicholas "Klaus" Gems, of 61 years. Gisela was the very loving and thoughtful mother to her 3 sons, Andy (Brigitte), Larry (Doris), and Nick (Liane); and loving grandmother to her 3 grandchildren, Norman, Patrick and Diana. She is also survived by, her sisters Heidel and Marianne, in Germany. Gisela was predeceased by her parents, Agnes and Kurt Hübner. Gisela was born in Berlin, Germany and joined her husband in Canada in 1956. Gisela was an expert crossword solver, had a keen sense of style and fashion, loved classical music, and shared her beautiful voice with the parishioners of St. Gerard's Parish for many years. Gisela and Nicholas travelled extensively together, and have logged thousands of nautical miles by cruise ship! Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Ascension Catholic Parish (1100 Berkshire Blvd NW) on Monday, January 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dulcina Hospice at St. Marguerite Manor (website: covenantcare.ca). The family would like to thank the team at Dulcina Hospice in Calgary for the caring and compassionate environment provided to Gisela.
