Amber Lee Finlay

Amber Lee Finlay entered heaven June 29, 2017 at the age of 35 years. She spent her final days surrounded by family and friends in the Intensive Palliative Care Unit at Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary, Alberta.

Amber was born March 12, 1982, in Edmonton, Alberta to her proud parents Stan and Heather Rachar. Amber's younger brother and friend, Kale, was born in 1985. Amber grew up in Calgary, Alberta, and moved to Rocky Mountain House in 1993, where she would later meet her future husband, Kevin Finlay. Upon completion of high school, Amber returned to Calgary, and began studies at the University of Calgary. Amber and Kevin were married in May 2001. They welcomed their first son, Reese Lee, in September 2002. Amber graduated spring 2004 with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (with distinction). The couple welcomed their second son, Bryn Nicholas, in August 2004.

Amber was passionate about her career as a Registered Nurse. She began her nursing career on Unit 72 at the Rockyview General Hospital as an undergraduate Nurse. Upon graduation, she immediately sought work in the Foothills Medical Centre Operating Room, where she worked as a member of the Thoracic Surgery team. In 2009, Amber left the OR to work in the Foothills Medical Centre Intensive Care Unit, where she provided care to the sickest of patients and their families. Always seeking to broaden her knowledge, 2014 saw Amber take a temporary position in the Labour and Delivery department at Foothills Medical Centre. Amber took great joy in the privilege of helping mothers to welcome their babies into the world.

Amber loved spending time with her family, and could always be found cheering her children on in their various activities. She loved to travel, and did so often with her immediate and extended family and friends. Amber never let her condition of Crohn's disease or later, cancer, stand in the way of adventure. She is, and will be, deeply missed.

A Funeral Service will be held at RockPointe Bowridge Church (12 Bowridge Dr NW) on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 12:00 pm.
