Calgary Seniors’ Resource Society

FRIENDLY VISITING
Isolated/lonely seniors are carefully matched with volunteers that share similar interests. Every effort is made to match volunteers with a senior who lives in close proximity. Volunteers make a minimum commitment of one hour per week for six months. Matched pairs participate in a variety of activities, from visiting over a cup of tea to playing a game of cards or getting out for a walk.  This program provides companionship and social support to seniors with little or no friends and family. There is a currently a waiting list for some areas of the city. Matches are made in order of priority and eligibility.

ESCORTED TRANSPORTATION
Volunteers provide Escorted Transportation for seniors who are not able to use public transportation AND require assistance during medical and banking appointments. The Escorted Transportation program is provided to help seniors maintain their independence.  Their service is unique, in that the volunteer accompanies the client from the time they are picked up until they are returned home.  There is a $10 fee charged for a round trip. Any donations of $20 or more to CSRS will automatically receive a tax receipt.  If you, or someone you know, would benefit from the Friendly Visiting Program or the Escorted Transportation Program, please call Calgary Seniors' Resource Society at 266-6200.

Rockyview General Hospital
The Grief Support Program provides a safe, supportive and healing environment for bereaved individuals to process their grief in meaningful ways.  The Grief Support Program founded by Rev. Bob Glasgow was started to encourage and strengthen people’s efforts to heal and grow through loss and grief, and to reduce the effects of high stress commonly associated with bereavement.  The Grief Support Program operates within Alberta Health Services- Calgary and offers individual counseling and group counseling to individuals who have experienced the death of a loved one and are in need of support.  Grief groups provide a safe, supportive healing environment for bereaved individuals to process their grief in a meaningful way.  All grief group participants need to be pre-registered by grief counselor prior to attending a grief group.  When you come to a grief group you can expect that you will meet others who share similar experiences and losses however we acknowledge that your grief experience is unique to you. You will be asked to share only as much as is comfortable for you to share and what is shared in this space stays there.  Most groups are held in the evening and group size is between 10-15 participants.  Meeting will run for a six week period.   For more information, please contact (403) 943-3533
